"ONCE A YEAR,

GO SOMEPLACE YOU'VE

NEVER BEEN BEFORE."

"If you want to experience life in Livingstone beyond what you will experience on your own or on a typical tour, I cannot recommend Local Cowboy Cycle Tours enough. The routes vary depending on what you want to see. For four hours I cycled with Wezi, who showed up promptly at my lodging with two bikes in hand.

It was a leisurely ride, with many stops, on paved and sandy roads and footpaths through villages where we encountered baboons, goats and cattle. But, mostly we met many young children who ran up to greet us and wanted only to shake hands, smile and wave goodbye. We met women carrying huge loads of firewood on their shoulders, which they had gathered from faraway; elderly women sitting on the ground in the quarry crushing one rock at a time with a mallet and men in ox-driven wagons bringing the charcoal they had made to market. Their toil was matched only by their dignity. Because Wezi knows many of the people and shows great respect when speaking to them, I felt more like his guest than a tourist.

At the school, which is supported by Local Cowboy Cycle Tours, Oliver (the “local cowboy”) took me to two of the classrooms to meet the students and teachers. Though the rooms and supplies were basic, the teaching philosophy for the youngest students was child-centered and forward thinking. It was also obvious that Richard, the head teacher, uses visitors as an opportunity to further the learning of his students.

Wezi’s kind heart and immense knowledge base—of anything from flora and fauna to local history and culture—made for the perfect introduction to Africa, as I begin my six-week stay here. I thank him. He is a wonderful teacher."

"Absolute must do in Livingstone

Fantastic tour of Livingstone, Wezi gives amazing insight into what life is actually like here and the money goes to the Local Cowboy School. Awesome tour, great cause. Check it out."

"I did this tour with Wezi, we started at 8am and didn't finish until almost 1pm as it was such an interesting day! Even thought the temp was high 80's, we visited the quarry, which definitely makes you reflect on your life and how blessed we are! The villages are so interesting and give you an insight of the locals life also the school which benefits from this tour. The school was closed due to an outbreak of cholera in another city. The visit to the local market was great for me as I purchased fabric and Wezi took me to a seamstress and I had a blouse and dress made which fit me perfectly! If you're in Livingston I definitely recommend doing this tour....Thanks so much Wezi and Patrick!"

A highlight of the trip!

"Wezi was our guide and he was great, very informative and modified the tour to our time limits! I felt as though I was seeing the real Livingstone and we loved every bit of it - even managing to pick up some amazing fabrics and salt from the market! This tour also gives back to the community and is a must when visiting Livingstone!"
